Centenary of the FA Cup 1872-1972
The oldest National Football competition in the world
In 1972 these medallions were issued by Esso – being a set of 30 steel medallions and one brass medallion of slightly different design to mark the 1972 winners – Leeds United
The steel medals are 28 mm diameter and the brass one is 32 mm
There is a mule in the selection – a medallion or coin made using mis-matched dies. This particular one features the obverse of Aston Villa with the reverse of the Newcastle Medallion.
